The Best Gifts in Town

The holidays are coming around and if you're anything like my boyfriend, you might not have a clue what to get your loved one. Fear not! Here are a few different stereotypical partners and the gifts that you can get your special someone if you're scraping the bottom of the idea barrel.

The "always cold" one

Weighted blankets are always a nice spin on the classic throw. They are warm, but they also give sleep an extra special quality. The recommended weight chart for adults is "10% of ideal body weight," however, after the 140-pound mark, the formula is adjusted.

Although the GravityBlankets have been very popular recently, this is a good article for the Amazon Shoppers out there.

The chef

Good-quality kitchen essentials are a very luxe gift for this person. Those who appreciate a nice evenly-cooked pancake or pan-steak would love a cast iron skillet!

If you aren't the chef, and you have absolutely NO clue that your partner would like, here are a few highly-rated cast iron supplies.

Note: If the items you're buying are not treated and/or seasoned, you should probably invest in some supplies.

Extra special note: If you REALLY want to make it special, treat and/or season the cast iron yourself so that the other person doesn't have to do it!

The techie

A good set of earbuds can save you. Whether you use them for noise-cancellation or listening to podcasts and music, the give you the ability to be taken into a different world.

Side note: I own the Bose ones at the top of the article; I would like them 100x more if I hadn't have messed up part that goes into my iPhone two weeks after receiving them for Christmas.

The traveler

A nice suitcase goes a long way. Not only will this person appreciate the gift, it is practical. You can do a bit of research to figure out which brand and size would be best. Maybe an overnight rolling duffel bag for the casual weekend traveler or a stylish four-wheeled carry-on for the cross-country meeting hopper.

The writer

If your S.O. loves writing, or even is just creative, there are a few things that would qualify as good gifts. Typewriters are a really cool thing to receive, but you have to think about what kind you should get.

If your S.O. likes the vintage stuff, and doesn't mind trying to find ribbons in order to actually USE the typewriter, get them an older, more original model. These can usually be found in estate sales or a pawn shops and antiques stores.

However, if you have a no-fuss SO who totally doesn't want to spend five hours looking at ribbons and trying to figure out which ones would work with their typewriter, get a new- electric model - it's easier to find parts for items still in production.

The beauty

This person probably spends way too much time looking at Sephora's website, only to not buy anything (or maybe buy too much). They'd appreciate something nice, something they might not get themselves on a daily basis.

If you are scared of purchasing something only to not have them like it, don't be. Most big beauty retailers have pretty good return policies if you have the receipt. If you want to splurge on your SO but don't really know what brands are considered "nice" or "fancy," some ideas for skincare brands are Tatcha, Caudelie, Dr. Jart, Glamglow, L'Occitane, and Nurse Jamie; for makeup, high end brands would be those such as Charlotte Tilbury, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Dior, Shiseido, and Yves Saint Laurant.

Perfume is a little bit harder to pinpoint and get right because it's such a personal preference, however, if you think you know your partner's taste well, go for it! My personal favorite right now is Jo Malone's Wild Bluebells.

The luscious locks

Hair care is just as important as other self-care items. There are lots of cool options for this person. Maybe you know that they like specific items, such as a hair mask for the dry winter months, or even just an expensive bottle of shampoo or hairspray. However, if you want to give them the gift of exploration, sample selections are really nice. I've gotten the Sephora one a few years in a row, and it is pretty awesome.

If you want something super luxurious, though, this scalp scrub feels AMAZING.

The newlywed

It's cute to get things with your name on it, especially when you're in love. If you've just tied the knot, it's nice to know that the other person is excited, too. Personalized wine glasses or photo albums with handwritten notes are a gift that anyone you're in love with will appreciate and cherish. Sites like Zazzle and Shutterfly make these gifts stress-free, but you can always go with handmade gifts such as scrapbooks or "Why I Love You" lists.
